During the COVID-19 shutdown, 23 million American families welcomed a furry friend into their home. Many of these dogs were young puppies during the shutdown, throughout their entire formative age when socialization and self-soothing is learned. This has created a generation of dogs with crippling anxiety. This anxiety can be expressed through destructive behaviors while you're gone, aggression towards other dogs, crying, drooling, and more. WDD helps these dogs learn to cope with their anxiety similar to how people are taught to cope with their anxieties.
The exact regiment for each dog in the CRP is dependent on their severity level of anxiety they display. For those on the more severe side of the spectrum, to start we will suggest you take them to the vet for an anxiety medication prescription such as trazodone. While medicated, they will start their behavioral training. Once the more severe symptoms of anxiety have subsided, we will suggest trying some days at daycare without medication. The goal is to get your pup fully off any anxiety medication. For those on the mild side of the spectrum, we will jump right into the behavioral training side of the program.
There is no extra cost to this program! It is nobody's fault, owner nor canine, that they have bad anxiety due to the pandemic. For WDD, we consider it unethical to capitalize off such a program. But to reap the full benefits from WDD CRP, your pup should attend daycare at least 2x a week on a consistent schedule. Consistency and stability is a staple to resolving anxiety issues for humans and canines alike. If you cannot commit to at least two days a week, we can still work on your pup's anxiety issues. However, we cannot guarantee improvement and they cannot be considered as a participant for our study's statistics.
No, we cannot guarantee this. However, from our small pilot study, 10/10 participants no longer needed anxiety medication.
Not at all! Many dogs have anxiety issues regardless of the anxiety inducing pandemic. We already have success stories of non-COVID dogs such as Skippy and Roscoe. Read their stories below!
TaterTot was WDD's first client. Upon starting daycare at WDD, all he would do is sit out in the backyard and cry for his parents to pick him up. Now, TaterTot spends his days playing tug of war, wrestling, and running in the backyard with all the other pups. Results were seen after ~4 months of daycare ~2x a week.
When Skippy first came to WDD, he was heavily medicated on trazodone. Without the anxiety meds, he would cry at the top of his lungs until he received his meds. After ~3 months of weekly weekend boardings Skippy is no longer on trazodone period. Now you can find affectionate Skippy playing and sleeping with other pups.
Roscoe first came to WDD medicated on CBD. He showed the classical anxiety symptoms of drooling, crying, and food aversion. After ~1.5 months of daycare 2x/week his anxiety behaviors significantly decreased without CBD. You can now find him playing with his favorite squeaky toy with other pups in the backyard.
Lilly was a shy pup when she first came to WDD. She would hide in the bedroom and would refuse to interact with other pups. After ~2 months of daycare 1-3x a week, Lilly can be found playing with all the WDD pups, especially her bff Nacho!
Ashton came to WDD with destruction and small dog aggression issues. After ~2 months of daycare ~2x a week, he loves playing friendly with smaller dogs and his mom has reported a significant improvement in at home behavior.
When Buddy started daycare, he was heavily medicated on trazodone with severe anxiety around large dogs. After daily daycare for ~2 months, Buddy rarely requires trazodone and loves playing with all dogs big and small.

On 01/13/2023, WDD stood before a NYS Supreme Court Judge petitioning to extend our deadline to file an Article 78 Proceeding and to extend the Order of Remedy put in place by the Village of Dryden.
The Judge ruled to allow for the Article 78 Proceeding to be extended (yay!) but also ruled to not extend the Order to Remedy (boo!) effectively ceasing operations of WDD at 1 Tannery Circle.
However, we are not entirely closed! We have converted to conducting home visits in lieu of daycare!
